It is an established fact that Microsoft Word is powerful, vast and universally recognized technique in the world of computers. But there are certain secrets to be understood to get the best out of it.
No doubt, several office tips and tricks were produced and published earlier, but the latest tips collection focuses on Microsoft Word covering an advanced optimization and customization options.
1. Create building blocks: Create and use building blocks as reusable document parts. Once it is created , you can insert it into any new document, e.g. to create a header for confidential document, go to the insert tab, click header, type confidential into the header and format it in any way you wish. Give the name “Confidential” to the header and save. It will be saved as a building block, which can be used in future word session.
2. Back up and edit words default template: Before proceeding, turn off the windows that hides most file names, like .com. The newly created copy will be named “ Copy of Normal.dotm. When a back up copy is made, double click normal.dotm to open for editing.
3. Create a default header or page numbering: Open your default template, go to the insert tab, choose page no. location and format for page numbering. Close and save; all your new documents in Normal.dotm will use your page numbering you specified.
4. Create default page numbering that starts on the second page: Use this trick after setting up default page numbering in Word using the previous tip. Any new document you create will have no numbering on the first page but on the second page.
5. Delete Normal.dotm and restore the default version or the backed up copy: The quickest way to find this is to enter this string in the search box in the Start Menu. The location of that folder varies in different versions of Windows.
6. Give word a more readable default font: To change it, press ctrl-shift-f to open font dialog. Click save as default and click OK.
7. Change other layout default in Word: Set margins and other page layout settings and click save as Default.
8. Put the auto format command on the quick access toolbar: In the drop down menu, under “Choose commands from”, click on Auto Format.
9. When you save or print a file with tracked revisions, make word warn you: Go to the file menu, then options, then trust center. Click privacy settings , checkmark.
10. Save and restore your macros: If you don’t want to share your word macros with other users, save it in a file that just contains macros and nothing else, start by pressing alt-F11to open the visual basic editor.
